The Ursa Practice System is built around a simple idea: improvement comes from returning to useful work often enough to learn from it. This putting drill allows you to work on your power and ability to read break by putting from all sides of hole. Designed to be used at your local course's putting green.

Harvey Penick wrote, “The higher your score, the faster you can lower it with the short game,” and observed that roughly half of a golfer’s shots are played within 60 yards of the flag. He also argued, “If you want to see a radical improvement in your game, you must make a radical change in the way you practice.”

Phil Mickelson expressed a similar idea from the perspective of tournament golf: “The only way to win tournaments is with the short game. Over half your shots out here are within 30 or 40 yards. Ball striking is where I'm trying to improve, yes, but more to eliminate big numbers than make birdies.”

And Bobby Jones summarized the scoring problem simply: “The secret to shooting low scores is the ability to turn three shots into two.”

Every session uses the same distances, the same scoring standard, and the same structure, allowing you to compare like with like instead of constantly moving on to another drill.

Record your score. Capture what you learned. Return the next week and do it again.

Practice. Record. Reflect. Repeat.

How to Use:

  1. Begin with an Opening Benchmark.
  2. Complete the same scored putting practice regularly. We recommend at least once per week.
  3. Finish with a Closing Benchmark to see your improvement.
